Steam sales are a force unto themselves. Video game backlogs grow to untouchable legnths. We become collectors as much as gamers. A Kenshi sale brought Kenshi into my life. Kenshi sells for $29.99 when at full price. I beleive I picked it up at $11.99 on sale. Kenshi arrived in my gaming life in 2025.
I was aware the beginning of Kenshi could be inaccessibly difficult for new players. I tried to choose a game start to help mitigate this. I failed in this regard. The game start I chose was The Freedom Seekers. You start with 6 characters. You start with building supplies, and an “Old Soldier” character with mid game stats. You start at a random Waystation Location. I tried this game start type twice. Both times I was spawned in to the Waystation in Venge.
The Freedom Seekers stopped following the caravan they they paid to lead them to a suitable settlement type at the ruins of the waystation in Venge. There were additional supplies to scavenge at this location. It did not seem to be suitable for settlement itself. They were however anxious to get out on their own. To keep any loot for themselves. To rely upon their hired Old Soldier for further navigation. While gathering supplies, milling about, and excitedly planning for their future out on their own. They were quickly set upon by headless skeleton thralls.

The Seekers did their best to defend themselves. The hordes of zombie like skeleton thralls were too numerous however. They went down one, and all. No one died at this time. Luckily they eventually stood. One Seeker after another regained consciousness. Standing to face their future yet again.

Before making it far. Three beakthings appeared. The Seekers valiantly attempted to defend themselves yet again. These foes were beyond them. Down they went. They were devoured by beakthings. The hope of seeking freedom died with them.

Not pictured were the giant lasers from space, and the blood spiders that finished off my other Freedom Seekers game start. This was not the last time Venge would undo a Kenshi playthrough. The game that hates you indeed.
